Mosaic Birdbath

Before You Begin

With safety glasses on, put old dishes in a plastic bag and break into small pieces with a mallet.

Materials

  • Large terra cotta saucer
  • Old dishes
  • Mallet
  • Sponge
  • Extra tough garbage bag
  • Household glue for glass
  • Premixed white tile grout
  • Grout sealer
  • Safety glasses

Let’s Do It

Wipe clean the surface of the terra cotta saucer. Glue broken pieces on the saucer in desired pattern. I chose to decorate only the sides with smaller pieces.  This allowed for more room to hold water.

Allow time for glue to dry.  Spread premixed grout evenly over entire saucer with hand and sponge. After it dries, rub excess off glass pieces with damp sponge.

Apply grout sealer and allow to dry thoroughly. Display on a pedestal of your choice.

This birdbath was in the garden all summer.  I occasionally rinsed with the hose to keep it clean.
